kingwood1Nahum 1:15 – “Look, there on the mountains, the feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims peace!  Celebrate your festivals, O Judah, and fulfill your vows.   No more will the wicked invade you; they will be completely destroyed…

The book of Nahum was penned sometime before the fall of the Assyrian city of Nineveh.  This city is well known to those familiar with the account of Jonah. Previously the Lord had given these people an opportunity to turn from their evil ways.  In the previous account, these people responded correctly, humbled themselves, and the judgment God had Jonah announce was averted for a time.  Later on however judgment would come when they again turned back to evil.  This gentile city is a symbol of this fallen world which is under God’s judgement, and grows worse and worse.  Many are suffering.  Those who trust in the Lord are protected, and can enjoy a peace in their souls that the world cannot possibly know.  We have an obligation to share this good news with everyone.

THERE ON THE MOUNTAINS – The mountain in the Bible is often times a symbol of the presence of the Lord.  This is where all faithful servants of the Lord remain.  We do so by remaining connected to our Lord and Savior in eternity through His Holy Spirit indwelling our hearts.

THE FEET OF ONE WHO BRINGS – This speaks of our Spiritual walk – how we go about our lives.  This life is only temporary, and the Lord desires to direct our lives.  By this connection, He shows us where and where not to go.  This path ultimately leads to eternity.

WHO BRINGS GOOD NEWS – This “good news” speaks of salvation through Jesus Christ.  In Romans 10:15, Paul quotes a similiar verse (Isaiah 52:7) after asking “how are they to preach unless they are sent?”  It is the Lord who sends us to preach this good news.

WHO PROCLAIMS PEACE – While we must live the gospel, we must also announce the gospel to others.  We cannot keep it hidden under a basket.  People need to hear this good news because everyone without this news lacks the peace that God desires to bring to their soul.  Those who have received the gospel enjoy this peace day by day despite their individual circumstances and hardships experienced. Nahum’s name literally means “comfort.”  The gospel brings comfort as well to the deepest part of our souls.

KEEP YOU FEASTS O JUDAH (”Celebrate Your Festivals”) – These feasts in general are a prophetic reminder of the moment we are living.  Each feast in the Old Testament reminds us of a different period of history in God’s prophetic plan we are living. Presently we are living the moment of the sounding of the trumpets (the feast of trumpets).  The Lord is coming back.  This is also part of the good news they need to hear.  Just as the Lord revealed all asspects of these feasts He also directs all aspects of our evangelism.  He reveals the details of how we announce this good news.  Each month the Lord has a specific group He desires for us to focus our prayers on.

FULFILL YOUR VOWS – We have a commiment to the Lord.  One day we allowed Him into our hearts.  We began our walk.  So too we must continue this walk.  A crucial part of this good news, much neglected nowadays is the fact that salvation is a process.  It is a commitment to complete what was first begun.  We must remain faithful until the very end.

Many Christians make promises to God – perhaps in a moment of intense emotion – but never fulfill them.  The Lord remembers them and takes them seriously.  As the Bible says, “When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow.  It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it.” (Ecclesiastes 5:4-6).

No more will the wicked invade you – We cannot go back to the old worthless ways we used to live.  We do not fear infiltration by the unsaved. We have a mission to preach the Good News.  These old things are to be put far behind us.  We have victory over the enemy.

Completely destroyed (”HE IS UTTERLY CUT OFF”) – As long as we remain faithful to the Lord and walk according to the steps He directs we are assured of the victory.

Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace!  O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.” (KJV)
